Johann Strauss monument in the Stadtpark in Vienna, bronze statue with marble relief by Edmund Hellmer

At the so-called ‘Monster Balls’ the three Strauss brothers performed together with three orchestras. The Strauss family invented the genre of light music for a broad audience and earned an international reputation as a result of their frequent tours abroad. Their most popular melodies were published as sheet music in large editions. Jetty Treffz, the first wife of Johann Strauss II, was also his manager: she organized concert tours, dealt with all the correspondence and signed royalty statements.
