Everyday livery of a personal lackey or coachman, c. 1915

Lackey’s livery: Working for Habsburg & Co.

1849–1914

A livery is the uniform worn by the servants of an aristocratic or royal/imperial household. The colour and form of the livery varied depending on the wearer’s position in the hierarchy of service.
While this example dates from the latter years of the imperial Court at the beginning of the twentieth century, its archaic formal language refers back to the glory days of courtly pomp during the Baroque era.
