1792–1815
These wars are sometimes known as the Coalition Wars because of the changing sets of allies: Russia, Holland, Spain, Portugal, England and other powers, even the Ottoman Empire, allied themselves with Austria and Prussia in the wars against France. On contrast with Napoleon’s talent for military organisation, some of these coalitions were unstable and lacking in coordination.
