Lodovico Ottavio Burnacini

Lodovico Ottavio Burnacini came from an aristocratic family in northern Italy. From 1652 he lived in Vienna, where his father Giovanni was employed at the Court of Ferdinand III as a theatre set designer. In 1655 Lodovico succeeded his father at Court, becoming ‘First Imperial Court Engineer’ and Imperial Cupbearer. He designed opera houses and sets for more than 100 operas, oratorios and courtly celebrations. In his book Maschere he recorded many of the costumes he designed for festivities held at the Court of Leopold I.
