Prince Johann Joseph Khevenhüller-Metsch

* 1706, † 1776

Prince Khevenhüller-Metsch married the lady-in-waiting of Maria Theresa’s mother. Following a career that included posts as a councillor in the government of Lower Austria, Imperial Aulic Councillor and envoy in Copenhagen and Dresden, in 1742 he was appointed Obersthofmarschall (Court Marshal) by Maria Theresia, rising to Oberstkämmerer (Chamberlain) to the imperial couple in 1745 and finally Obersthofmeister (head of the Court Household) in 1760. His journals record the period from 1742 to 1776 and are an important source on life at Court during the reign of Maria Theresa.
